ASCOT’S LAST BOXING DAY WINNER

Star Risca was the most recent galloper to win a Boxing Day race at Ascot, the Keith Mifflin-trained gelding winning the Saturday Travel Liftout Handicap that closed out the eight-event card on 26 December 2009.

Steven and Neville Parnham combined for a Boxing Day double and Impressive Jeuney, prepared by Darren McAuliffe and ridden by Shaun O’Donnell, won the La Trice Classic before Clint Harvey booted home Star Risca for the eighth of his 10 victories. Star Risca’s ninth success occurred in the 2010 Detonator Stakes at Listed level, his only black type win.

Star Risca made 49 starts and earned $439,150 in prize money before he retired from thoroughbred racing in 2011, and he found a new purpose in life as a nanny at Mungrup Stud.
