Demi Rose will be anything but silent after Plead The Fifth held on to win the Kojonup Agricultural Supplies Kojonup Cup and force Racing Australia to amend its records to list the six-year-old mare’s rider as a race-winning jockey.
Rose made her competitive debut in the main event of last season’s Wandecla Picnic Day in Western Australia’s Great Southern region, coming home stone motherless 16 and a half lengths behind Kojonup Cup victor Glen Albyn aboard Take It Like A Man. But Rose made every post a winner in this year’s edition, Plead The Fifth leading by 15l in running and hanging on to post a half-head margin over fast-finishing favourite Big Caroline. And Rose wrapped up the non-TAB meeting with a second victory from her three assignments when she steered Dyson Jones – Black Ramm Enterprises Handicap winner Greco, which just edged out Chengdu.
Damian Lane and William Pike scored Group One victories at Caulfield, but Kojonup Agricultural Supplies Kojonup Cup-winning rider Rose will be the happiest Western Australian jockey for the next couple of days.
