FERNIE’S FAMOUS FIVE

No trainer saddled more winners in Australia on Saturday than Peter Fernie, whose thoroughbreds won four of the six Esperance races in addition to Peters Investments reject Western Temple taking out the Amelia Park-Bunbury Stakes.

Spirited Lad, Dirty Dot, Sigil and Black Comet registered Esperance victories, but it was Western Temple who took centre stage, going past pacesetters Wrinkly and Echo Effect before crossing the Bunbury finish line two lengths ahead of another couple of outsiders, Arctic Stream and Luke’s Gold.

According to Timeform ratings, Western Temple is the best galloper which Fernie has trained, and the seven-year-old son of Perth Cup heroine Western Jewel supplied the Cambana Lodge conditioner with his sixth success at Listed level.
