LEFOE FINALLY HITS PAY DIRT IN RED CENTRE’S BIG RACE

Garry Lefoe did not ride an Alice Springs Cup winner during his many years as a Red Centre-based jockey, but he trained one when I Am The Fox smashed Pioneer Park’s 2,000 metres track record in securing the Northern Territory event.

I Am The Fox clocked 1:59.73 to claim the Alice Springs Cup and extend his unbeaten run to three starts since he joined Lefoe’s Darwin stable from the Freshwater Creek yard of Jamie Edwards. Lefoe is the sixth conditioner under whose name I Am The Fox has competed, and the seven-year-old gelding has won 12 of his 55 races all over Australia.

This year is not the first time a trainer with the surname of Lefoe has trained an Alice Springs Cup winner because Garry’s ex-wife, Lisa Whittle, prepared two-time champion Granzig in 2010 when he registered his initial success.
