Donna Ormerod has just one galloper, Lucy Diamonds, in her Gawler stable, but her $5,000 buy from the 2016 Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale justified favouritism on their home track to make both of them first-time winners.
South Australian jockey premiership leader Jessica Eaton – she is top of both the metropolitan and statewide ladders – rode Lucy Diamonds to her Atlas Event & Party Hire Maiden Plate victory. Lucy Diamonds, which is by Group Two winner Shrapnel and out of Morphettville juvenile victor Bel Franc, is one of four of the mare’s offspring which have raced. The eldest of them, Reoffered, has neither won nor placed on any of her 47 starts, but Lucy Diamonds joins Ashtrain and Picargo, both of which Oamaru Force sired, as winners.
Ormerod’s first runner, Abundance Of Heart, finished stone motherless on her only appearance for the Gawler trainer in November 2018. Lucy Diamonds was fourth up in her first preparation when she was victorious in the Gawler opener.
