Shock Result was a fitting race victor on an Ascot program that failed to feature a winning starting price favourite for the first time in more than 60 meetings at the Perth Racing venue dating back to Wednesday 18 December 2019.
Ascot favourite backers had collected at least once at 61 consecutive meetings on Western Australian thoroughbred racing’s top track before Powerful Force, Olden, Reveuse, Katona, Bombardment, Bumper Humper and Celtic Diva flopped as jollies. However, spare a thought for those unfortunate Ascot favourite backers who wagered on each of the 11 races contested at the venue on Wednesday 18 December 2019, only to see every jolly fail to justify its market position.
Ginger Mack, Surf Point, Wild Galah, Shock Result, Rhythm Star, Heels A Plenty and Lollipop Lane won Ascot’s seven events, and the seven-leg accumulator at starting prices worked out at odds of just under 300,000-1. Shock Result beat Katona and seven other runners to win the Salinger Handicap for trainer Paul Jordan and jockey Craig Staples.
